Manganese boron steels
UNI EN ISO 683-2
Manganese-boron steels are an alternative to the traditional steels for quenching and tempering. Compared to these last ones, they have a lower carbon content (max. 0.50%) but higher manganese and the addition of boron (20 ÷ 50 ppm). Thanks to these values of the chemical analysis, manganese-boron steels have some advantages including a good weldability, excellent strength after the heat treatment and a better cold deformability.
They are used in press hardening and in the automotive sector, as well as a substitute of case-hardened steels and, as already mentioned, of steels for quenching and tempering.
